Icon Magazine June 10 ‘THE AFRICA ISSUE’

I just got so excited when i came across this issue. Icon has to be one of my all time favourite design magazines. I have been an avid reader since my college days and was just delighted when i came across this today. ‘ THE AFRICA ISSUE’ is devoted to a continent im so passionate about Africa. It explores ” architecture and design from this vast, fascinating and neglected continent” I’d like to add highly underated! It also travels to countries like Ghana, Burkina Faso, South Africa & Nigeria.

I’m so pleased that the Western world is looking to Africa, I guess the continent is under spotlight with the world cup being held in South Africa but it is great that  focus is being brought  as it highlights some of the bright young talents in the world of Architecture & Design. There is a feature on Mokena Mokeka, the young South African Architect who was my featured architect of the week last week. He truly is a exceptional talent

As part of the issue there are various programmes taking place in London to discuss the various issues in Africa. Kunle Adeyemi of OMA, one of Nigeria’s great export’s will be given talks about the continent. I highly recommend this to all! I think its great so much exposure is being brought to Africa in a positive light. With all the progression over the last few years and over the next decade, I see Africa emerging as a giant amongst the continents in the world. I’m so optimistic about this!
